I really admire Darkest Star for having a unique perspective and an obvious commitment to embracing all the seemingly contradictory elements that join together in their amazing creations. Throughout Darkest Star’s collections, the elements of tough and yielding come together in a way that shows a real understanding of bondage as both a fashion element and a lifestyle.
Darkest Star’s designs sit in the intersection of fashion, lingerie and fetish, with both a sexy edge and a wearable ease. Her lookbook is cool because you can see the versatility of the strips of chiffon, combined with belts and collars and cuffs.
With the pasties, the look is overtly sexy, fitting for fetishwear, but with the high quality of the materials evident. I love the belt because the loops in the front can really transform the scarf when it is threaded through it.
The kimono is gorgeous– I would definitely wear it as a loungewear piece. The leather belt looks tough with its obvious hardware pieces, but the sheer, delicate chiffon of the robe provides a cool contrast.
I adore these lace sleeves because of the gothic, extravagant look they create. I think the addition of extra pieces to the basic shape that Darkest Star uses throughout shows how variable the garment is depending on the context.
Darkest Star’s upcoming SS2014 collection goes in an unexpected direction because of the pale colors and luxe, glittering touches. This collection made me catch my breath when I saw it at The Lingerie Collective because it had such deliciously soft and delicate color that was a perfect juxtaposition with the hard, bondage elements.
The grays, pale pinks and creams are perfect for spring and add an element of softness that makes me love this season even more. The collars and leather still remain, but they are tempered by the lighter color palette.
Look at those pearls on the collar! I really don’t know how you could feel more precious and valued than wrapped up in one of these.
Silver is one of my favorite lingerie colors because I think it looks regal. This robe is regal, and allows you to be regally bound, if you so choose.
This piece is just gorgeous. Even though it’s the same as the one in black, the new colors give it a totally different feeling. There is a less of a ‘goth’ element, but looks even more subtle and sophisticated.
There are even more photos of the different ways the chiffon pieces can be tied, but I think this is enough for now. The other thing I really love is that they really fit any size or body type– just wrap the chiffon however you want!
